Your day-to-day routines and habits have a profound effect on your dental health. With proper habits, your teeth can stay gorgeous and healthy for many more years. Read about these bad dental habits to see if you can strengthen your smile by changing your habits!

1. Teeth or Tools?

Some people use their teeth as if they were hardware tools. For example, if a bottle doesn’t open, if a bag of candy refuses to open, or if the package from the mail is too tough, some people engage their teeth to help solve the problem. Unfortunately, this can chip, weaken, and even fracture your teeth over the years. Keep scissors, a bottle opener, pliers, and a small screwdriver handy in a nearby drawer; grab the right tool the whenever you need to open something!

2. That Wasn’t Meant to Be Chewed

Do you like to chew on things when you’re working, when you’re distracted, or for fun? If you chew ice, popcorn kernels, fruit pits, or if you bite your nails, you are putting your smile at risk! Chew on a piece of mint gum or a healthy snack if you feel you need something to bite.

3. Teeth Grinding

Many people suffer from teeth grinding, also known as bruxism. Many people may grind their teeth when they are concentrating or while they sleep. Unfortunately, teeth grinding wears down your teeth and can cause jaw soreness. Periodically pause and make sure you are not clenching your teeth. If you grind your teeth while you sleep, talk with your dentist about fitting your smile with a night guard.

4. Hard Toothbrush Bristles

The toothbrush is a crucial appliance, and dentists recommend that you stick to toothbrushes that have “soft” bristles. If the bristles of your toothbrush are too hard, they may damage your gums and tongue.

5. Forget Something?

Did you remember to floss last night? To use mouthwash? To visit the dentist within the past 6 months?
