Are you in the oral hygiene aisle at the store trying to decide between a hard and soft-bristled toothbrush? If so, you’re not alone. Many people don’t know the differences between the two products. Our dentist, Dr. Eric Eusebio, is happy to help you by comparing the two tools. That way you can select the brush that is right for you.

As you may already know, soft-bristled toothbrushes have soft bristles while hard-bristled toothbrushes have hard bristles. You probably think hard bristles provide a better clean, right? Well, that’s not true. In fact, soft bristles more effectively clean the teeth. This is because they are fragile; this makes it possible to bend and reach small, hard-to-reach areas of the smile.

Soft bristles are gentle with the teeth and gums while hard bristles are a little rougher. It’s important to be gentle with the smile because if you’re not, you can wear away your tooth enamel and make your gums pull away from your teeth, which can promote tooth sensitivity and cause an unattractive smile.

If you’re still not sure which toothbrush is right for you, please contact Smiles of East Lake at 619.482.1962 at your earliest convenience. Our dental team is here to help you know more about toothbrushes in Chula Vista, California, and we look forward to hearing from you!
